Ligo na U, Lapit na Me (Star-crossed Love) is a Filipino independent film based on the bestselling novel of Eros Atalia of the same title. It is one of Cinemalaya 2011′s most watched film. According to the movie’s synopsis on Cinemalaya’s page, the film “is an examination of postmodern love and relationship and the way this generation deals with their love and fear”.
Karl Vladimir Lennon J. Villalobos, nicknamed Intoy is a street-smart, ordinary guy who secretly loves his classmate Jenny, a rich and quirky transferee who got kicked out from a school run by nuns for inappropriate manners.
Their “friendship” has some perks and privileges since Jenny has allowed Intoy on having sexual relations with her as long as they will not fall in love with each other. This “friendship” went on for a year. Before their graduation, Intoy finally decided to stop pretending that he is strong and that he feels nothing for Jenny. He even felt excited when one day on a coffee shop, Jenny told him that she was about to give him something. Intoy felt that Jenny was about to admit that she feels the same way so he rushed to a nearby store and bought Jenny an expensive handkerchief and wrote in the box’s card that “the feeling is mutual”. Intoy was devastated when Jenny gave him the pregnancy test kit showing that she was pregnant and that he should not be bothered since the baby was not his.
